President’s Day Projects

With school taking up a large chunk of my time and house hunting taking up the rest, I’ve been struggling to squeeze in time to craft. However, our nation was kind enough to schedule a holiday today, so I took full advantage of my day off and got done what I could. I also managed to hit some sales for fabric, but wasn’t able to find anything too amazing, just some odds and ends. I did get some Mod Podge, so I’m going to be on the look out for a fun project with that. 🙂

One thing I’ve got listed as done today was actually done last week, but I didn’t have time to blog about it, so it’s being listed on President’s Day for the sake of convenience. The first one is a mini quilt made up of four friendship star blocks and white sashing. Since I’ve got it hanging on a white design wall (aka: cotton batting hung over the door…), it’s hard to see the sashing, but I promise it’s there. Once it’s bound, it will look really really cool. (I think.)

*Update* I forgot to include the link to the tutorial I used, here. I made the squares much smaller than the measurements given. The friendship blocks are 11.5 inches, with sashing, the whole thing is about 17 inches or so. (My seams weren’t exact. Don’t judge.)

In the next picture, I’ve got a small piece of the left over star pieces that I’ve put together and I’m going to use it along with more white fabric to piece the back of the quilt. How very modern! 😉

The last few pictures are of a purse I’m working on. I started this project to use up some rather ugly material I had on hand as well as to try out the purse pattern to see if I liked it. I couldn’t handle the plainness of the fabric, so I spent most of my vacation day making it pretty with fabric paint and embroidery. Honestly, I’m not sure this is a purse I would carry, but I sure am having fun making it! 🙂
